11 tips when buying a computer
Nowadays, everybody needs to buy a computer. It has become a necessity. But before you go buying, it is good to know a few tips when buying a computer. It will make the process faster and with better results. Seriously I have bought 4 computers in the last 3 years, and I have some knowledge about the topic:)
Why do you need a new computer
This is the real reason you are here in the first place. If you want to buy a computer for your work, let it be something respectable, such as dell or hp. If you want to buy it for your child you don’t really need to give him the latest tech. So consider your options.
What is your budget.
This is important. Don't go buy a computer for $2,000 while you have enough for a $1,000.But be prepared for flexibility, since there might be marginal differences between what you plan for and what you actually get.
Are you traveling a lot.
If you are, then go for a laptop obviously. But if your not then get a desktop and you can carry your files on a USB or on an external hard disk. Desktops are always cheaper a better performance.
Don’t rush.
This is probabley one the best tips on buying a computerResearch online first. This will give you a little bit of idea on your options. One of the worst things that can happen to you is that a salesperson sells a bunch of stuff that you won't need. So its better to go into a shop, look what you came for and LEAVE.
Go for the top brands.
I can't stress the importance of this. I've bought 4 computers for the last 3 years. I’ve spent almost 2000 $ for my son. Finally I learned that the best PCs to buy are Dells and Hp. Toshiba is fine too. This is because I bought a Pentium 4 Dell 5 years ago and it still runs fine. But my core 2 duo touche mate just failed before one year. Take serious care when buying a computer
Size of the processor.
This again comes to the reason you are buying. If your a designer using CAD and other complicated graphics software, its better to go for the higher processor such as i7. But if you need it for simple documents and presentations, or games i5 is more than enough.
Size of RAM. This is everything. You most likely don’t like your old computer due to its low speed. If you want speed , high RAM is a must. Now a days don’t go below 3 GB.
Size of hard disk.
Depends on what you store. For documents and presentations , then 320 GB will do for you. For HD movies, games and images ;go for the 400-500 GB to be on the safe side. Trust me you'll fill it up pretty quick.
Large screen size is crucial.
Your eyes are more important than your money. Get a decent sized monitor or laptop. Never go below 15.6 inch for laptops. They are light anyway so carrying is no problem. As for monitors get 21-23 inch.
Check the warranty.
This is important. Anything goes wrong, you will want to be on the safe side. Go for 2-3 years warranty. Dell usually gives 2-3 years. But 1 year is also fine. You can use this as a final decider between two products of similar properties and prices.
